In the early 1600s two mathematicians independently developed the fundamentals of calculus. We still use both of their notation conventions today. This is a story that has fascinated me since I first heard the story. I would like to explore this topic.

Guiding research questions:

"Why did Newton need the Calculus?"
"Why did Lieboniz need the Calculus?"
"Why did they both need it at the same time?"
"Did they know of each other?"
"Did they have any communications reguarding the calculus?"
"What is different about the two versions?"

This is a blog for my research paper in ENGL 102. I will be writing about the mathematicians Newton and Lieboniz, and how in the early 1600s they both developed the fundamentals of calculus completely independently. I am looking forward to studying this topic.

A guiding question: "For what reasons would Newton or Lieboniz develop the Calculus in the first place?"
